Mrs. Morrison's Marshmallow Squares

Base:

  • ¾ cup butter
  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • Pinch salt

Topping:

  • 2 pkg gelatin dissolved in ½ cup cold water
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • Food colouring
  • ½ cup cherries
  • 1 tsp almond extract

Base: Mix ingredients together and press lightly into a 9x9 inch pan. Bake at 325°F for 30 minutes, until lightly browned.

Topping: Bring white sugar and water to a full rolling boil. Boil for 2 minutes. Add gelatin mixture and baking powder. Beat until stiff. Add food colouring, cherries and almond extract. Set in refrigerator overnight.
